cross roller ring advantages

WHAT IS A CROSS ROLLER RING?

A device that allows rotational movement while handling axial, radial, and moment loads

WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS?

It has an inner and outer ring that rotates on one another, using rollers which allows for low friction rolling movement
Load is supported using roller elements

POPULAR APPLICATIONS

Cross Roller Ring Types & Their Benefits

  • The Cross Roller Ring is a roller bearing with exceptional rotation accuracy that can bear loads in every direction. As it has orthogonally arranged cylindrical rollers, it bears loads in every direction.
  • Cross Roller Ring Types RB, RA and RA-C - For Inner Ring Rotation - Used for areas where the inner ring must have precise rotation accuracy.
  • Cross Roller Ring Type RE - For Outer Ring Rotation - Best for places where the outer ring must have precise rotation accuracy.
  • Cross Roller Ring Type RU - For Inner Ring Rotation / Outer Ring Rotation - An integrated inner/outer ring type that is used for both inner-ring rotation and outer ring rotation.

Features of the Cross-Roller Ring

Applying a Cross-Roller Ring, cylindrical rollers are situated with each roller perpendicular to the next roller, in a 90 V groove, separated from one another by a spacer retainer. This design plan permits only one bearing to obtain loads in all directions including radial, axial, and moment loads. As the Cross-Roller Ring has high rigidity but with the minimum possible dimensions of the inner and outer rings,  it is perfect for applications such as joints and rotating units of industrial robots,  swiveling tables of machining centers,  rotary units of manipulators,  precision rotary tables,  medical equipment, measuring instruments and IC manufacturing machines.

High Rotation Accuracy

The spacer retainer fitting with cross-arrayed rollers keeps rollers from skewing and the rotational torque from becoming larger due to friction between rollers.  Different from conventional types using steel sheet retainers,  the  Cross-Roller  Ring does not cause unilateral contact of the roller and does not seize.  Therefore,  even with a preload, the Cross-Roller Ring exhibits stable rotation. Since the inner and outer rings are made to be separable, the preload can be changed, and this feature enables accurate rotation.

Simple Handling

The internal and external rings, which could be separated to the Cross-Roller Ring body subsequent to being introduced with rollers and spacer retainers to prevent the rings from separating from each other. Therefore, it is easy to handle the rings when installing the Cross-Roller Ring.

Skewing Prevention

Spacer retainers keep rollers in their proper position,  so as to prevent them from skewing  (tilted rollers).  This gets rid of friction between rollers,  and as such secures a  stable rotational torque.

Expanded Rigidity (Three to Four Times Greater than the Conventional Type)

Unlike the thin bearing balls introduced in double rows, the cross rollers permit a single roller ring part to take loads in all directions, increasing the rigidity to three to four times greater than the normal type.
