History of THK
THK was founded in 1971 in Tokyo under its first name, Toho Seiko Co., Ltd., and has since grown to become the world's leading supplier of linear motion guides and systems. In 1972, THK became the world’s pioneer in the manufacture of a method of linear motion with rolling contact and began manufacturing and selling the commercialized result: Linear Motion (LM) Guides. In 1977, THK's Kofu Plant, the first full-scale LM Guide production plant, was established. This was THK's first step in expanding production facilities.
In the 80s, THK expanded their efforts to the United States and Germany, believing that "good technologies can be transferred across borders, and so can the satisfaction of the efficient manufacturing these technologies bring. To meet increased market demands, THK established the Gifu Plant in Japan in 1984, followed by the Mie Plant and the Yamaguchi Plant in Japan in 1985.
As their business continued to grow, so did their manufacturing offerings. In 1996, THK became the world's first developer of Caged Ball LM Guides. These human-and environment-friendly products feature long service life, low noise emissions, ultra-high-speed operation, low dust emission, and smooth operation.
In the 2000s, their overseas manufacturing bases continued to grow, with THK Manufacturing of America in Illinois, THK Manufacturing of Europe in France, and THK Manufacturing of China in Wuxi, China. Their expanded globalization efforts enabled the company to truly become a global manufacturer.
THK Today
Today, THK has manufacturing and sales bases in a tetra-lateral system: Japan, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, with research and development capabilities that are truly world-class. They offer an impressive range of products, from small items such as bushings to large items such as precision rails, offering a full lineup of industrial components for general use.
They are now the world's leading manufacturer of LM Guides, Ball Splines, Ball Screws, and Cross Roller Rings.
In addition to these key components, THK also manufactures a wide range of other precision machine parts and motion control devices, such as actuators, cam followers, and link balls. It also provides engineering services that include the design of linear drive systems.
